Madrid Food Venues
Mercado de San Miguel
Spanish food markets are world famous. They must have originally started as only produce markets, but have morphed into a mix of produce and high-end snack and restaurant stalls. And, lots of beverage options to match. Definitely end-destination venues for anyone looking for great food and fun.
This is Madrid's most famous market - the Mercado de San Miguel. It is located only a block away from the Plaza Major.
Inside, an amazing spread of food options. Sushi to cavair to paella to meats. With any form of alcoholic beverage available worldwide.
Cavier and vodka on the left, champagne and wines on the right.
Here a specialist mixes world-class drinks. That is my caparina first left followed by Faye's mohito. Large tumbler glasses. Four Euro each.
One area of the market is reserved for tour groups. Here waiting for the chief to make paella. Pretty reserved and quiet. In contrast...
The rest of the market is a free for all, open seating arena of endless food and drink. My kind of place!
Two of Our Favorite Restaurants
Straight ahead is Las Cuevas do Louis Candelas. We first came here in the year 2000.
Highest quality cuisine impeccably served on the front patio. Plan on a leisurely two or three hour feast.
A late evening look. Great bar inside.
This is the Cantina La Traviesa. After searching around for a restaurant that has an excellent menu and looked popular with locals, we gave this one a try. We came back for dinner two more nights. Great food and excellent service.
This is scallops for Faye and baby lamb chops for me. Sangria every night.
